We helped spread a little Christmas cheer yesterday at Jackson Creek Villages in Independence. The residents were so delighted to hear the kids and see their smiling faces. It was a great! Check back for more pictures!

 



 





Helping Hands 2013

We are missing a few members and a couple of our fearless leaders, but here we are... Helping Hands 2013!

Christmas Caroling at Jackson Creek Senior Living

Please bring your family and join us on Sunday, December 1st at 2:00 at the Jackson Creek Villages of Independence. We will carol through the halls on the skilled nursing side and then move to the assisted living side and do the same. Breast Cancer Awareness Drive

Thank you for all of your support for our drive to support Breast Cancer Awareness. The members of Helping Hands, along with their families, selflessly put forth their own time to create approximately 375 Loom Bracelets and the PB community stepped forward in their support. In addition to the sales, we had several cash donations and staff members also donated and showed support by wearing jeans for a week. It is with great honor to say that we have collected over $500 in support of cancer research. I can't give an exact count as the money continues to accumulate! The left over bracelets will be sold as well. Thank you for making our first service project such a success!

Special Olympics

We had a great morning supporting some very special athletes Saturday morning. Thank you Blue Springs High School for giving us the opportunity and to all of the volunteers! It was a fantastic morning!

 

Monster Bash... postponed

Due to the weather forecast for Wednesday evening, the Monster Bash and Trunk or Treat has been postponed. I will be sure to alert you when a family fun run has been rescheduled.

There are so many ways we can help...

Kid President has some excellent points of how we can all take a minute to help others. There is lots to be done, but together we can make a difference.

Reminders!

Only 6 more days to take our poll on which day of the week works best to go caroling. I would love to have your input! Please take the time to take the poll on the right hand side of the blog.

Also, don't forget to sign your child up if they plan to volunteer at Monster Bash next Wednesday Night. We would like to know by Monday who we have coming to help! You are welcome to stay and volunteer with your child.

Next Saturday is our Special Olympics event, please sign up by Monday as well. If you have already sent in a written permission slip, you do not need to sign up on VolunteerSpot. However, from now on we will utilize this as our means to organize events and volunteers.

I have already had 25 bracelets dropped off this morning! These kids are AMAZING!!!

Cooks for Kids!

The Ronald McDonald House Charities in Kansas City offer a program that you may be interested in supporting as an extension of Helping Hands. This is an opportunity to get your extended family and friends involved in helping our community. The Cooks for Kids program allows volunteer groups to come in a cook a meal for the residents staying at local Ronald McDonald Houses. For these families, this takes a huge lift off of their shoulders as they can focus their needed love and attention of their hospitalized child. You can view their calendar and apply to provide a meal by visiting the following website. This an activity that my family great enjoys doing and I am sure yours will as well. So we can monitor the outreach of Helping Hands, please let us know if you decide to do this! Also, please send pictures!!!

Loom Bracelet Update

This last week, the orders for the Breast Cancer Awareness Loom Bracelets poured in! Our school community not only ordered over 300 bracelets, but also made additional donations to the cause. We have ordered the kits and anticipate their arrival any day. We will get the kits to the kids as soon as possible and if all goes as planned, we will distribute the orders by Monday, October 28th. Thank you in advance for helping make this possible.
